DVD

What may not surprise any of us is how quickly this movie made the “jump” from cinemas to DVD, but what can one expect when the human cardboard cut-out is the leading man. Sorry Hayden, but you really should be looking for roles that are not so “I am misunderstood, I am brooding, I am angry”. Okay now that I have that out of the way on to the movie.

Jumper tells the story of one young man discovering that he has the power to teleport at will, to anywhere his eyes have seen, and he can envision in his mind. Then learns of a war against his kind that is centuries old. It is the struggle of one or two against many, and he must use his power not for pleasure but for survival.

There are many elements in the film that I must applaud: I love the teleporting effects and premises, the war against them as seeing them as threats rather than different, and the family aspect which I will not divulge for those of you who have not seen it. All in all some good stuff, the acting was a little sketchy, even from the great Sam Jackson, but nothing that will take you out of the experience.

Doug Liman who directed The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith has done a great job of filming some kinetic action sequences, and verges on overdoing so many times, yet never quite tips the balance. A good watch if you enjoy a fast moving, action-packed, and occasionally smart film.
