When I heard that there was going to be a new Hulk film made I immediately thought that Edward Norton should be cast as Dr. Banner, honestly. I also though that another Hulk film would have to be great to erase the memory of the 2003 version, that nearly caused the comic book film genre to collapse. I am pleased to say that after seeing this one, it fixed everything.
The cast was selected perfectly, and the opening credits allowed “EdNo” to quickly play out the Hulk’s creation, all in perfect homage to the television series. Though all of the actors did a fantastic job of making all of this seem real, Tim Roth really stole the show, a terrific performance.
I am a sucker for roof-top behemoth battles and I must say that this film featured one of the best, to put it into movie review terms, it was “A Thrilling Spectacle!” no really it was great. I tend to judge all monster fights by Peter Jackson’s King Kong vs. T-Rex fight in his adaptation of King Kong. Hulk vs. Abomination could be a close second as it was long, loud, and somehow original.
This film is one of the best Marvel films to date, and more than made up for at least on of the failed Marvel films of the last few years. I personally enjoyed this film more than Iron Man, although I’m sure that there will be plenty of banter over which was better.
I fully expect to see genuine sequels from this film, there really should be.
