Billy Bob Thornton pulls off another great job in this movie. And that coming from someone like me that is not big on BBT, I have to give the devil his due. He has been in so many movies from Tombstone to Bad News Bears to Bad Santa and played so many roles in between. He truly is talented. But I just can not seem to like him. With that said, lets get started.
What we have here is a home owner that is jobless, a wife that believes in his dreams, and a family of 3 children that would follow him into a burning building. Fortunately they do not have to. Billy Bob Thornton plays Charles Farmer, a former Astronaut with NASA who was forced to retire early so that he could save the family farm. Virginia Madsen plays the wife Audrey Farmer. She is a waitress at the local diner and hears all the negative remarks about her husbands dreams. Then there is Max Thieriot who plays the son Sheppard Farmer that is going to be the head of the control center for the launch.
I could sit here and tell you how this dynamic story unravels, but then why read it. It is easy to read between the lines to know that the farm has been mortgaged to the hilt and all existing money has been going for food and the rocket to help Charles achieve his dream. Following each and every twist of this former astronaut that had to come back to his home town to save the farm is something that kept me on the edge. Every twist and every turn is what keeps you glued to the movie.
And just when you think it is over, it is not. Enjoy. By the way, click on the picture and it will take you to the trailer.
