On Friday, I received Vantage Point from my Blockbuster Total Access account. So Saturday night I decided to watch it. It is jam packed with big name stars that individually could make a movie.
Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox play the secret service agents assigned to protect the president, played by William Hurt. Forest Whitaker plays Howard Lewis, the tourist who unwittingly captures the entire incident on video. And, Sigourney Weaver plays the news channels production chief.
This movie uses the replay from different perspectives technique in order to show how the different characters witness and perceive the assassination of the president and the two subsequent bomb blasts. As you might expect, with each replay more of what actually happens is revealed. In many cases this revelation negates a previous perception. By the third showing, this technique does become tiresome.
in the tradition of the “Bourne” movies, this is a fast paced and action packed flick. You must pay attention to close attention to each of the replays to gain more insight and perspective. As alluded to above this movie follows the events leading up to and immediately after the assassination of the president while on a world peace summit in Salamanca, Spain. With the current obvious target of terrorism, there are definite geo-global political overtones. These overtones are not however so heavy handed that they detract from the overall movie.
I would definitely recommend this movie for a fast paced, edge of your seat evening. This movie has been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for sequences of intense violence and action, some disturbing images and brief strong language.
